The Grove U9 Football vs Ashfold School

In their first fixture of the season the U9’s had to adjust to a different surface to play on in the shape of the quicker, harder astroturf. We were looking forward to starting the season well.

The Grove began positively, attacking whenever possible and defending so well that Joseph Imonioro didn’t have to work too hard in goal. We then broke the deadlock with a fantastic goal, Keith Adeleye picked the ball up on the left hand side, cut in onto his strong right foot and finished with good composure to put us 1-0 up.

The score line stayed the same for a long period with both teams having chances but failing to score. Unfortunately, in the last ten minutes The Grove twice gave the ball away in defensive areas and twice paid the ultimate price for it, conceding soft goals.

The full time whistle went and the boys were gutted to be on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline but in truth nine times out of ten they would win that match, and they will be more determined to cut out any sloppy errors to ensure they come away with victory next time.
