The Grove U8 & U9 Rounders vs Swanbourne House

Under 8's

A beautiful day for our fixture against Swanbourne and the girls were very excited for our second game of the season. The first innings was a mixture of some excellent fielding but with a number of silly errors batting. Oluwadabira battled with her hay fever as bowler but her determination was admirable and she played a key role with some consistent bowling and speed to the ball when retrieving. Special praise must go to Emily Pugsley who took a fantastic catch and looked to stump her post as well. Our batting in the first innings unfortunately lacked concentration and many players were stumped out because of poor decision making. This is something to work on going forwards to the next game. The second innings fared better and although our batting was disappointing, our fielding remained consistent with very few half rounders given away. The final score finished as a loss for The Grove 16 and a half to 11 and a half.

Under 9's

The Under 9 Girls were very excited about travelling to Swanbourne for their Away match. After lots of practice in game play, the girls were confident. In the first innings, the girls showed obvious nerves, as we were missing hits and running cautiously, we were also not watching where the ball was going and this was getting a few of our players out. We just needed to relax into it more. Our fielding was excellent though, we were catching the ball well and we caught one player out, Alexa O'Kane's amazing quick reactions made the catch! It was a shaky first innings, but we were winning 5 ½ rounders to 3 ½ rounders.

The second innings was much better. The girls had some excellent hits and even scored some rounders from them (Hannah Siddall who scored 3!, Alexa O'Kane and Mikayla Martey). Our fielding was also better as Swanbourne's hitting had also improved. We managed to stop a few rounders from being scored and we also got 3 players out on the posts. Altogether, it was an amazing match to watch and umpire and the girls were very excited to take their first win of the season.
